This desk box was built in 2018 and Jim carved using some red oak that was split from a log. He carved it using chisels and a mallet. It features hinges and forged nails made by blacksmith Peter Ross of North Carolina. The casework is assembled with wooden pegs and the bottom and cleats on the lid were put together with forged nails that were clinched. The drawer pulls were made with solid brass rings. 17th Century Reproduction Boxes
This carved box was made in 2018 and from 3/4" thick oak boards with rebate joints and wooden pegs. It features the cathedral carving design that was widely used in the 17th Century. The bottom is 3/4" thick white pine and it was attached with cut nails. The lid has oak cleats with clinched cut nails. It has a wooden pin for the hinge.
